The Cowboys have told teams that Julius Jones can be had for the right price, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

The new coaching staff may be poised to let Marion Barber III, who scored 16 TDs last season, get his chance at the beginning of games. Jones was inconsistent but averaged 4.1 yards-per-carry in 2006 and is only 25, so he should bring back a third-round pick, if not more.

Not sure if I would agree with that, i guess it depends on the trade.
3rd round pick? hell no!

I'd do it for a 1st round pick or a chance to package and move up for Adrian Peterson. deal

Julius was a 2nd round pick so you have to hope to get that back. I don't think it's a good idea...and not just because JJ's my favorite player in the game. He's so cheap and he has years on his contract. And when he's healthy, he's definitely a top 20 back.

I like Julius, I just want to see more consistancy. His rookie year made me think he was going to be a pro bowler for years. These past 2 years he would have a game going for 120 yards then the next game get 20. His injuries also concern me.

We should keep him thought, considering he is making very little money.

Julius is due $470,000 in 2007 and he's a FA in 2008. Maybe the thought is to get something from him now via trade that is closer to what his value WILL be when he hits the open market. A pick would be the easiest way to do that. I can't say that I disagree, but I don't like the idea of going forward with just Marion Barber.

Well obviously if they were to trade JJ, they would need another back because MB3 hasnt shown he can carry the load. I would think of a speed back, possibly Lorenzo Booker in the 2nd or 3rd round.

There are some intriguing backs in this draft, especially guys whom I think can get the job done as a change of pace back, who will be there late in the draft (well, 4th round, say).

When asked if Julius Jones is being shopped, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Wednesday that he doesn't "see that happening."

"It’s likely that we’ll be going with the running back group we ended the season with," Jones said. "Hopefully we can have (Tyson) Thompson there that could give us a third back." Jones also left open the possibility of drafting a running back in April to facilitate competition.

Other bits of what Jerry said made me questionable.

"More than likely, unless we have an opportunity in the draft to do something, we'll be going with the running back group we ended the season with. Hopefully we can have [Tyson] Thompson there that could give us a third back."

Jerry Jones declined to say if a team has contacted the Cowboys seeking Julius Jones.

dallascowboys.com is trying to shoot down trade rumors.

The main story:

There will be plenty of changes for this year's Cowboys team. But despite recent rumors that Julius Jones could be traded, don't expect running back to be one of them.

I'm sure Jerry has a hand in this to calm JJ down.

I really don't want to trade this kid. Obviously it depends what we'd get back, but JJ is a solid back and I really like him. I don't want to see him racking up yards for anyone but the Cowboys.

Jerry Jones is a pretty smooth operator, so it's always difficult to say what's an act and what's real, but he has been pretty true to his word about roster moves, especially of late. If there's that quick of a denial from Jones, I'll take his word on it.

Anything Dallas does regarding Julius Jones has nothing to do with salary-cap space. They have plenty of cap room to do whatever they want. They don't think he's an elite runner. They're likely going to ship him off on draft day.

I hope he gets a chance elsewhere. And I really hope they sign someone else...with a high pick...or they're in trouble. Barber isn't a back who can be successful carrying the load either. I think it would be foolish to get rid of their solid 1-2 punch, but what do I know?

I am officially not onboard with this news.

Yea I think someone is going to have to offer them a great trade. They pretty much know Julius is gone once he hits the free agent market, there is plenty of teams that would give him the full time load.

Personally I really like Barber though, just the toughness he runs with. I also really like Julius but he hasnt really been the same since his rookie year. He will have flashes of it 2 or 3 games a year, but its really frustrating.

Although I would rather have both runningbacks, it would be interesting to see is Barber could carry the load. He did in 3 years of college.

his 3,276 rushing yards rank 3rd in school history
his 4,495 all purpose yards rank 2nd in school history
his 35 rushing touchdowns rank 2nd in school history
his 14 one hundred yard games rank 3rd in school history
