If the Cowboys go ahead with their plan to cut Drew Bledsoe next week, they will be in the market for a veteran backup to starting quarterback Tony Romo.
The Cowboys would like to get a long-term deal done with restricted free-agent punter Mat McBriar before the start of free agency next week. If they don't, look for the Cowboys to offer McBriar a one-year deal worth $1.3 million, which includes a compensation tag of a second-round draft pick if the 2006 Pro Bowl selection signs with another team.

| Not that it's a surprise. Just keeping that idea out there. Dallas needs a backup QB. |

I've heard Anthony Wright may be looking to come back and be Romo's backup/mentor.
He doesn't have any preconceived notions that he can go somewhere and compete for a starting job, and has accepted the fact he'll be a backup pretty much anywhere. I guess he likes Dallas (from his previous stint) and would like to work with Tony Romo. _________________

I like Anthony Wright. But the Cowboys orginally released him because they were upset he elected to have knee surgery at the end of the 2001 season. It may not matter anyways.
My bet would be on Kerry Collins. |

| I have to admit that I thought Wright sucked bad when he was with the Cowboys. Romo has almost as many pass attempts in his career as well. And while I don't like Collins (I'm also a Raiders fan), I would rather see Collins as a mentor. Still, when you factor in salary, Wright may be an okay option. Let me scour some of the FA lists and find someone who might be a better fit. The TX connection is strong here and it can't be overlooked. Collins would probably kid himself that he should still start. |

I have heard some theories about Harrington coming in as the backup since Garrett was his QB coach in Miami.
Personally I hope not. _________________ My first words were..mama, daddy...Landry. |

| For the right Price I would love Harrington as a backup. He has a similar skillset to Romo's. A guy like Anthony Wright or Kerry Collins would have a leg up on him though because they can obviously teach Romo alot more. |
