JJ's turn to get a shot at the Tuna.

” … Coach Parcells my first year, he (Parcells) kind of let me do what I wanted to do, second year and last year he kind of coached me too much, … . You know, you can’t really mess with a running back out there. You can tell them where to go and where the hole is gonna be … … He had me running like a robot. No disrespect to coach Parcells but, you can’t really tell a running back where to run or he’s gonna be out there looking like a robot. That’s what I was doing last year.”

I hope that is the truth. Because i looooved the rookie year Julius Jones.

There's some truth to it. I was a RB from 4th to 12th grade and I always had the most success when coaches just stopped telling me what to do and let me play. If you think of the way QBs are often babied (by everyone but Gruden), it's funny to think that there is one standard for a QB and everyone else is fair game. Some RBs have a fragile psyche, too. You can't criticize every little thing; gets them thinking too much. If you're thinking too much, you're slower making your reads and cuts. It was obvious that JJ tried to run more straight up the field this last season than he did as a rookie. He needs to get through the hole quickly...that I agree with; but once he's through, let him dance a bit. He's so good at it.

Yeah can you imagine telling Barry Sanders to run straight ahead. Each back has their own style and a coach should recognize what thier best back does best and turn them loose to do it.

Well, its safe to assume JJ will be a Cowboy this year. It seemed like if he was going to be traded it would be around draft time. I hope I'm not wrong.

This year...yes. He didn't report to more conditioning drills, will work on his own. I have no doubt that he knows how to workout, be in shape, but the team probably doesn't love what he is doing. This is a contract year for him, Rotoworld reports. I thought he was locked up for longer.
